A WALK DOWN MEMORY LANE:  Shania Twain Releases Her Latest Album “Not Just a Girl the Highlights”

By Leslie Snyder

A flurry of excitement came bursting out of Timmins, Ontario Canada in the early 1990’s.  This flurry of excitement was country music superstar Shania Twain.  This fiercely determined artist was determined do things her own way which meant adding elements of rock and pop into country music which turned a lot of heads among the traditional country music fans and music industry insiders. This trip down memory lane begins with the release of the latest album “Not Just a Girl the Highlights” on July 26. 2022 featuring a collection of eighteen chart-topping hits dealing with determination, romance, heartache, and finding hope when one believes all is lost.

The tale of determination begins when a woman does not want to settle for what is known as “women’s work” in the sassy track “Not Just a Girl.”  This brand-new track features raspy vocals and groovy country pop melodies that a swift breeze is blowing through a woman’s hair while a chainsaw is buzzing through a large tree trunk.  This track is an unapologetic tale about a woman who feels that there is more to life than just housework even though housework is a necessary part of life. Housework is not the only activity in a woman’s life.  Meanwhile, the tale of determination continues with romance blossoming in the heartwarming track “You’re Still the One.”  This track features soulful vocals and soothing pop melodies that sound like ocean waves are gently splashing over a couple as they are swimming while the sun is setting.  This track is a soul bearing tale about a couple who had fallen deeply in love even though people around them had serious doubts about the couple’s relationship.  However, the couple’s relationship is still going strong.  Now, the tide takes an abrupt turn when deceit has been discovered in the in the angry track “Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?”  This track features soulful vocals and the more traditional four-on-the-floor country melodies that sound like people are dancing in a smoky dance hall on a Saturday night.  This track is a heart wrenching tale about a scorned woman who has discovered that her boyfriend has been cheating on her with several different women for a long time.  So, the scorned woman tells her cheating boyfriend to take a hike.

Finally, the tale of determination comes to an end with a feeling of calmness growing within a heartbroken woman in the peaceful track “Life’s About to Get Good.”  This track features raspy, but soulful vocals and rustic country pop melodies that sound like a once heartbroken woman is literally walking on air as the leaves on the trees are rustling through the breeze on a crisp fall morning.  This track is a hopeful tale about a once heartbroken woman who has found peace and happiness after being mistreated by a man of whom she thought loved her, but did not.  The heartbroken woman refused to give up by forging ahead realizing that this task seems impossible after facing unexpected heartbreak.  Life can and will get better with time.

Shania Twain is an amazing country music superstar who has given listeners a heavy dose of unforgettable hits for many years.  Her latest album “Not Just a Girl the Highlights” will bring joy to her fans while wanting to hear more exciting music from her in the future.
