In the U.S. for a two-month fall tour, Hayde Bluegrass Orchestra, an 8-piece Norwegian band, will play Dee’s Country Cocktail Lounge on Monday, October 27 @ 9pm, following Kyle Tuttle at 6pm. Together for more than a decade now, the members of HBO got their start as friends playing covers. As they were beginning, they saw Broken Circle Breakdown, a Belgian film about a bluegrass band, and were captivated by the sound. The made a recording of “Wayfaring Stranger,” which went viral (at nearly 6 million views) and have gathered a huge international following on YouTube.

They have visited the US to attend IBMA twice, with lead vocalist Rebekka Nilsson named 2022 IBMA Momentum “Vocalist of the Year,” but this is their first full tour. They opened at the Outer Banks Bluegrass Festival in Manteo, NC, opening for Dan Tyminski, and will pass through Nashville, before going on through Kansas and Oklahoma, ending in Ft. Myers, FL.

They added Orchestra to their name, a reference to their attention to musical arrangement. The tour precedes a new album on the horizon, one with more original music. They will have a special U.S. edition of the CD available during their tour. Band member Sjur Marqvardsen (accordion) said their bluegrass journey “started with us trying to understand this new–for us–foreign form of music, and we had very good feedback with our interpretation of it. We just didn’t know exactly how to do it right, but the way we did it wrong was appealing to people.”

He added, “There are a lot of rules in bluegrass, and some of them we break on purpose, and some of them we break by chance, and I think it’s a fresh take for a lot of people.”
