Of Monsters and Men at The Pinnacle

Of Monsters and Men bring a dreamlit Mouse Parade to Nashville’s Pinnacle on November 10th.

The Mouse Parade drifted into Nashville on Sunday night.  Painting the evening with a soft glow of colors that seemed to mimic the Northern Lights.  The Icelandic band just released their new album All Is Love and Pain in the Mouse Parade this past October.

Arny Margret opened the night with a dreamy stillness.  A lone spotlight backlighting her with fog rolling around.  Her song ‘I Love You’ moved like waves curling onto a shoreline and she closed with an unreleased track accented by harmonica.

When Of Monsters and Men stepped on stage, it started with a soft lit and slow building set that dimmed into a warm haze, matching the band’s indie-folk sound.  Between songs they had chats with an audience members.  One stating that they were their favorite band of all time.

The night’s centerpiece was a stunning, saturated blue, and low lit performance of ‘Mouse Parade’.  Standing in a circle, harmonies and piano drifted across the room.  Everyone was so entranced you could hear every shift of breath.  An angelic yet haunting pause that seemed to stop time.

Towards the close of the night, Nanna Bryndís Hilmarsdóttir stepped off stage and into the audience.  An unexpected yet exhilarating turn before ending the night with ‘Fruit Bats’.  It was a bittersweet comedown that left the room swaying.
