The European press has been catching onto Person since the LP has been released. Lyric Magazine in the UK noted: “Person has steadily been working towards this moment and it is now time for the rest of America and the wider world to begin to see just what a major artist Person has the potential to become. Touchstones on this powerful album are wide-ranging. Jack White, Lenny Kravitz, John Mayer, Hendrix, BB King, Elvis and ZZ Top are all thrown into the mix. But listen deeper and you’ll hear Clapton, 90’s Blues Guitarist Jeff Healey and even bands like the Red Hot Chilli Peppers too. For a young guitarist, Person is steeped in the music of those that have gone before him whilst still putting his own original twist on things.”

Person’s first European tour is scheduled for late summer, with plans to visit The Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, Belgium, and the United Kingdom with a September 13 debut at the infamous Black Heart nightclub in London.

“Zach Person needs to be taken very seriously,” said Lyric Magazine in the UK. “He is a real talent, a real ‘person of interest’ (see what we did there?). As a writer, as a guitarist and as a singer he proves, on this debut album, that he has the balls and the chops to mix it with the big boys. We intend to be in the front row supporting this great musician. Do yourself a favour and give this album a real listen – dust off your hairbrush microphones and air guitars because we’ve found someone of real potential who could make us want to use them again.”

Here in the United States, Person recently did an official takeover of American Songwriter’s Instagram on April 1 and premiered his debut music video for “Can’t Stop Running” with The Austin Chronicle on March 10. See here for the premiere. Additionally The Austin Chronicle reviewed his record just last week which can be seen here.

“Fuzzed and muffled, ‘Can’t Stop Running’ bursts like a vintage FM radio blues fixture, bleeding and cutting through busted stereo speakers,” said The Austin Chronicle. “Uncorking the Austin singer/guitarist’s full-length debut, the lead single deconstructs contemporarily, mixing the open chord slide of Delta blues with a dubby wall of electronics. Adding tracks to his 2020 EP, Zach Person spins a playful permutation of the blues as it steers into modern embellishment and pop hooks. Evident on his American Idol run in 2016, the young Texan boasts instrumental prowess in spades. Songs like the amplified rework of Elvis’ ‘All Shook Up,’ greasy slinger ‘Back to Me,’ fuzz blunderbuss ballad ‘How Long,’ and country-pickin’ ‘Carolina’ make his LP a true guitar introduction. Unlike the ostentatious jamming and overwrought display of technique that often defines contemporary blues slingers, Person breaks from those trappings by leaning in toward softer intonations and away from the archetypal form of monstrous roots rock. Pastoral beauty ‘Wanna Fly’ and aching lament ‘R.D.M.S (Demo Version)’ glean of a tactile intimacy, while standout ‘Crossroads’ casts a story of biblical predestination.”

“An impressive and ambitious record that blends rock, blues, funk, soul and more with energy to burn,” said the Austin American Statesman. “Person serves up tunes that range from the gospel-tinged, acoustic-centered ‘Wanna Fly’ to the slow blues-funk groove of ‘Back to Me’ to the soulful pop groove of ‘Radio Man’ to the thumping intensity of ‘Long Enough.’ One could be forgiven for not recognizing ‘All Shook Up’ as the Elvis Presley classic; Person completely reframes its melody and tempo, giving it a fuzz-guitar 21st-century makeover. The closing tune, ‘R.D.M.S.,’ is identified in the track list as a demo, but it offers an intriguing insight into Person’s recording process; stripped

back to just his voice and electric guitar, it’s brimming with raw emotion.”

ABOUT ZACH PERSON:

Hailing from Houston, Texas, Person is a House of Blues Music Forward Foundation Alumnus, representing the Houston Blues Society at the International Blues Challenge, a competition featuring some of the foremost blues artists from around the world; these opportunities would later lead to Person sharing stages with legendary acts such as Buddy Guy and Robert Cray. “What else can I say, this young man is hot!” said Buddy Guy.

Person moved to Austin, Texas in 2017, where he was quickly discovered and signed by industry veteran, Christopher Durst, a music entrepreneur and former rock photographer known for his work with Willie Nelson, Lucinda Williams, Seasick Steve, and more. Person and Durst then partnered with

producer Will Loconto, who would become co-founder of Blackdenim Records. Loconto was chosen for his unique ability to blend indie rock, pop, and electronica, along with Person’s love for roots music and blues guitar. Person’s debut LP features Jake Wyble, his long-time musical collaborator and drummer, who he met in Austin and is actually from Cumberland County, New Jersey, the same area in which Person was born and lived until he was three years old, though they never knew each other.
