Last night, I got to witness arena-sized energy inside one of Nashville’s most beloved intimate venues, The Basement East. I’ve seen Greta Van Fleet play for huge crowds before, so seeing them from such close proximity felt almost unreal.

After nearly three years away from the crowds and massive arenas, this residency feels like the perfect way for the band to reconnect with their fans. And after all the rumors and speculation about a possible breakup, fans can finally breathe a little easier. Fall isn’t just bringing back pumpkin spice lattes and cozy sweaters—it’s also bringing us a brand-new album from the sensational Greta Van Fleet.

The night felt like a trip through different chapters of the band. They opened with “Highway Tune” before moving through favorites like “Safari Song,” “Flower Power,” “Black Smoke Rising,” “Heat Above,” “Light My Love,” and “Meeting the Master.” But this was not a night of nostalgia. New songs “Saw You Stand,” “Tear It Down,” and “Play Your Games” fit naturally into the set, giving Nashville an early look at where Greta Van Fleet is heading next.

That next chapter officially arrives October 9 with their fifth studio album, Palace For The People. Recorded here in Tennessee and co-produced by the band with Mike Elizondo, the album lands right in the middle of the residency, making these Basement East shows feel less like ordinary concerts and more like a temporary home for the beginning of something new.

And this small-room moment won’t last long. In February, the band heads back to much larger stages for the newly announced Into The Beginning Tour, a 59-city North American and European run stretching through July 2027.

For now, Nashville still has two more chances to catch them this close, with shows at The Basement East on October 10 and October 17.
Sometimes Nashville really does spoil us.
