LIVE MUSIC REVIEW

Welcome back to loving live shows

Metal is more than a genre….Metal is a way of life; think of an oral tradition being passed on from one generation to another.

That was the exact feeling entering the Brooklyn Bowl in Nashville. It was welcoming! The excitement was undeniable, there was electricity in the air.

You may think I’m crazy, but I was overwhelmed by joy, big time. The shared smiles, the respect, the chanting, screaming, etc. It all was simply perfect, the experience was of absolute enjoyment since I stepped in the room. We all knew what we were here for and treated it as a sacred ceremony. Which takes me to the reason we were all there, the bands.

All Hail the Yeti was there to initiate us to a night that promised to inspire that ancient warrior energy within us. They set the mood with a very evocative yet fresh stage presence.

I should mention, as you walk into the venue it’s like you have to follow the lights and sound to find the stage, so right off the bat the experience is intriguing and engaging. By the time you get to the stage your senses are already exalted.

People were in trance, receptive, following the lead singer’s every request. It was amazing, you know you’re in for a treat when the first band gets that reaction from the crowd. This is what great service, an excellent venue and incredibly talented artists do, they all create the perfect environment for people to attend and not have to worry about anything other than  being themselves and enjoying the show.

It seemed like a short set, but then again it is the first band! So I have to tell myself to calm down. Suicide Silence hits the stage and the crowd explodes. These guys are no strangers to the metal scene, and we’ve missed them. You looked around and everyone was cheering, following along and knew the lyrics to most of their songs. This guys were having some major fun on stage. You can tell they’ve been doing this for a while. They have a solid relationship with their fans and they delivered! From the charisma of the singer to the great guitar arrangements and an always smiling bass player. They gave it their all. “Fuck everything” had to have been the favorite tune of the night and I mean, I can understand why! It was a whole mood. The drummer deserves a review of his own. He got his cardio done in that very show! Amazing, just amazing musicians.

They had us screaming, jumping, singing along and moving our arms up in the air like last year never happened, like this year was not difficult.

The clock is hitting 9 15 p.m. and we are now minutes away from the main act, Jinjer. This is their third North American tour, and for many of these people this is the first time seeing them live. All age groups were here tonight, even a little girl with her daddy who seemed to be so excited she couldn’t stop jumping even in between bands. lights go out and we lose it. We get immediately hit with a solid band and the signature guttural vocals we’ve all been waiting for. From now on, Tatiana would have us in the palm of her hand until the end of the night. The lights were amazing, the screens perfectly matched the songs moods with their visuals. It was incredible to see how all of a sudden the stage got bigger and it felt like we were in a stadium. They were excellent! people were going nuts. One song after the other they delivered the quality of a record with the feeling of a live show. I love details and the glow in the dark make-up was a favorite. It was no accident either, you can tell this show was well thought out. From every point in the venue you can spot the little glowing shapes, it was magical.

The Lead singer had absolute command of the stage. She displayed versatility as well as dominance over her craft. I don’t want to spoil anything for you, but if you haven’t yet you need to buy Wallflower! Jinjer lived up to the hype. They are every bit as amazing as you hear they are.

This may sound redundant but it felt the way shows felt precovid. It felt like more than simply going back to normal, it felt like going back to tribal, to primal. And at the same time we didn’t go back, we moved forward. And Jinjer’s music was there to lead the way. Don’t miss your chance, get your tickets now and go to the next show. You won’t regret it.
