Whitehorse is full of surprises in “Why So Cruel” a new single that puts Melissa McClelland’s vocal prowess front and centre. With a feathered nod to Debbie Harry and Luke Doucet’s instantly identifiable guitar riffs, Whitehorse minces no words.
“Why So Cruel” is dance-ready disco noir, a new sound from a duo that is constantly pushing their own envelope to find fresh directions in the simple math of one plus one. “Why So Cruel” is the new single from the band’s forthcoming album Strike Me Down, an album that explores ultimatums and consequences. Strike Me Down will be Whitehorse’s second full-length release of 2021.
With “Why So Cruel” Whitehorse continues to play with fantasies and realities, theirs and ours.

Since their debut, Whitehorse has traveled from magnetic folk duo to full-blown rock n’ roll band and beyond. In truth Whitehorse is never fully either one or the other, but an ever-evolving creative partnership that challenges both artists, Melissa McClelland and Luke Doucet, to explore new instrumental and lyrical terrain with each record. The JUNO Award winners returned in March with Modern Love, their first co-produced full-length album since the pink pop kink of Panther In The Dollhouse (2017). Strike Me Down will be the duo’s second new album of 2021.
