New York-based rocker Des Rocs brought, his ‘Once in a Lifetime” tour promoting his debut full-length album, A Real Good Person In A Real Bad Place, to Nashville, TN on June 22nd. The tour kicked off on June 10th in Milwaukee and ends on July 23rd in Ohio.
When I arrived the venue was already packed and the opener was just about to finish the set. Unfortunately, I did not get to see their performance but people raved about how good they were.
After a very short break, San Francisco-based band First in Flight took the stage. The quartet came out with an attitude of champions, wearing matching reebok white sneakers and jumping from one side of the stage to the other. This act reminded me of 90s pop bands like NSYNC, but with a lot of focus on guitar and bass shredding. The vocalist showed off his athleticism with a surprising handstand. He also jumped off the stage into the crowd. First in Flight is a super fun band to watch. I’m sure we will see them back in town soon.
When Des Rocs took the stage we were all pumped and ready for his promising set. Danny Rocco (vocals/guitar) can easily take your breath away with his powerful performance. Wearing his now iconic black leather pants and white tank top, he demands your full attention. He is magnetic and you can feel yourself little by little loosening up and giving in to the sway of his hips, the fast guitar, and his buttery voice.
He performed next to his long-time friends. A drummer and a bassist. You can see that they are doing what they love and that even though they are almost at the end of the tour, they gave us an explosive performance.
One of my favorite things about this act is that the band takes the time to interact with the crowd. Danny welcomed us, thanked us, and cheered us many times during the set. He gave us a wonderful story to meditate about, he introduced his band including the sound techs and other behind-the-scenes members who often get ignored. He even introduced us to his photographer!
Another touching moment was when he invited someone in the crowd to join him on stage and play the drums. You could see the disbelief on the face of the lucky/brave dude who got to perform a Queen cover with a top-notch band in a mythical venue.
The entire set was stadium quality. It’s easy to see why a young band like this was able to open for the Rolling Stones.
I encourage everyone to check out Des Rocs. You will experience an unforgettable night and artistry that is hard to come by these days.
