Breakout pop singer/songwriter Brye released her latest single, “I’d Rather Be Alone,” today, Friday, April 30, on Imperial Music. Brye’s ability to draw in listeners with her intrinsically vulnerable lyrics is on full display in this new track. Produced by Alex Hope (Selena Gomez, Troye Sivan, Alanis Morissette), “I’d Rather Be Alone” stages an evocative scene that feels like watching a soapy drama play out in real time.

“The whole point of the song is that neither of us individually are the problem, but it’s actually us together that is causing the issue,” Brye said. “There is a lot of pressure for us to find ‘romantic love’ in high school and college, when I think the emphasis should be not only on healthy love, but self love as well.”

“I’d Rather Be Alone” comes on the heels of her massive TikTok hit, “Lemons,” which has over 40 million streams to date. Drawing inspiration from artists such as dodie, Oh Wonder, Clairo and Conan Gray, Brye puts her own spin on modern indie pop. The Chicago suburb native has shown her passion for singing by starring in many theater productions and posting acoustic covers on her YouTube channel. Said by American Songwriter,  to channel “the artistic prowess of Lorde and Billie Eilish,” the 17-year-old’s lyricism and talents show maturity well beyond her years.
