KIM PETRAS @ THE CANNERY BALLROOM / THE CLARITY TOUR

@KimPetras

Monday night Nashville experienced its first freeze of the season. Fitting that soon to be pop-icon Kim Petras graced Cannery Ballroom with an epic performance of her hit “Icy”. On her return to Music City, Petras turned out a loyal crowd for a show filled with bubbly but dark pop tunes and powerful belting numbers. She swept onto the stage following a massive dance party spun by her friend and tour companion Alex Chapman. Chapman riled up the crowd with cheeky remixes of past favorites from the likes of Hilary Duff, Miley Cyrus and of course Lady Gaga.

The crowd who turned out for Petras’s performance was clad in a slew of rainbow wigs, shiny leather ensembles, and glitter trims. Clearly a loyal fan base they chanted and cheered as she took the stage like a gothic ballerina. Given the size of the venue Petras’s production had to be scaled down but was no less impressive with everything from crystalline hued light shows a human-sized turntable and roughly 5 outfit changes. She clearly gave her all to this crowd fresh out of the freezing rain and they returned the sentiment entirely.

The first half of the show was bright and cheerful she opened with more sparkly of hits such as Got My Number before the second half took a darker turn with her spinning on stage in a literal cage of light belting, There Will Be Blood and Death by Sex. Later she made the crowd question if they were truly living because not everyone lives but Everybody Dies.

All together Kim Petras’s return to Nashville on the Clarity Tour can be deemed a success. She is an artist who can command a crowd and turn unknowing bystanders into fans. Her songs are fun, energetic and provide an escape while still giving a voice to who she is as an artist. She is a pop diva on the rise, her OG fans will look back fondly on her days of Sound Cloud drops while she takes on arenas sometime in the not so distant future.
