RIDING INTO THE SUNSET: “Twenty Years of Rascal Flatts:  The Greatest Hits”

By Leslie Snyder

Who is the greatest country pop supergroup of this generation?  Well, it is the passionate and fun-loving trio named Rascal Flatts.  This amazing trio showcases their amazing vocal harmonies while telling stories of young love, heartache, and fighting for what one believes when facing improbable odds in life throughout their emotionally powerful album “Twenty Years of Rascal Flatts: The Greatest Hits” which was released on October 2, 2020 featuring twenty memorable hits that will tug at the heart strings of listeners everywhere.

The story of innocence begins with a slight chill in the air in the thoughtful track “These Days” (Single Edit).  This track features soulful vocals and rustic country pop melodies that sound like a chilly, damp breeze is whistling through a lonely man’s hair leaving him to feel cold on a rainy day.  This track is a reflective tale about a lonely man who runs into an old girlfriend who has gone through her fair share of “ups,” and “downs.”  However, the lonely man has always wondered what their lives might have been like if they had stayed together.  Meanwhile, romance is running wild in the fun-loving track “Fast Cars and Freedom.”  This track features raspy vocals and groovy country pop melodies that sound like a young man who is revving up the engine of his muscle car while he is waiting to pick up his girlfriend.  This track is a sultry tale about a young couple who is riding recklessly in a muscle car on a Friday night with dreams of forever racing through their heads.

Next, the story of innocence turns into a story of survival in the gut-wrenching track “Stand.”  This track features quivering vocals and pulsating country pop melodies that sound like an angry person’s blood pressure is elevating due to the obstacles that keep getting into his or her way and impeding progress.  This track is an uplifting tale about how people should begin to be in charge of their own lives in the middle of difficult situations even though it will not be an easy task.  Finally, the story of innocence has suddenly been washed away by a river of sadness in the heartbreaking track “Easy” (Single Edit feat. Natasha Bedingfield).  This track features weeping vocals and haunting country pop melodies that sound like a mourning dove is cooing sadly on a dreary Saturday morning.  This track is a heart wrenching tale about a once loving couple whose relationship has ended.  Sadly, the once loving couple is struggling with living separate lives because of constant reminders of the way their life as a couple used to be.

Rascal Flatts is one of the greatest country pop supergroups of this generation with a flurry of unforgettable hits throughout their upbeat album “Twenty Years of Rascal Flatts: The Greatest Hits.”  This collection of music will remind listeners that life is an ever-changing story.  However, the challenge is how one chooses to live and deal with life’s uncertainties.
