Sevendust with special guests Tetrarch and Dead Poet Society
Nashville may be known as the country music capital of the world, but Sevendust brought out all the rock fans to downtown Nashville for the last stop on the first leg of their “Animosity 21st (20th) Anniversary Tour”. They are celebrating their third studio album, “Animosity”, by playing the entire album front to back for fans to reminisce while rocking out to the band live.
The Wildhorse Saloon is typically known as a country bar and restaurant filled with line dancers, but that was certainly not the case this Sunday night. The tables were removed and barricades were set up in front of the massive Wildhorse stage for a standing-room-only lower level of the famous venue. The doors opened promptly at 6pm, letting in a huge line of eager fans waiting to claim their spot for the show. The room quickly filled up.
Up first was the energetic four piece band, Dead Poet Society, originating out of Boston. The Berklee alums got the crowd going with songs from their debut album including “In too Deep”, “SALT” and “CoDA.” Lead singer Jack Underkofler interacted well with the crowd and got everyone hyped up for the upcoming acts. They may have been the least “hard” act of the night, but they certainly gave the crowd an amazing show!
Tetrarch came on next and the mosh pit started right away. They are very much a metal band and made sure the crowd knew that immediately. With Diamond Rowe on lead guitar and Josh Fore on lead vocals, you can tell these two have been rocking out together for a long time. Josh told the crowd about the pair playing metal music as kids and now they are living out their childhood dream every night on stage together. They played songs including “I’m Not Right”, “Unstable”, “Oddity” and “Stitch Me Up”. If you are looking for a new metal band to follow, Tetrarch fits the bill.
Sevendust finally took the stage in front of a sold out show with the first song off their Animosity album- “T.O.A.B.” Afterwards, lead singer Lajon Witherspoon thanked the Nashville crowd for being there and expressed his excitement for getting to play in the town where he grew up. Next, they went immediately into the song “Praise”, and the crowd went wild! The crowd surfers went up and the mosh pit ensued. They worked their way through a few more songs, then the stage got dark and quiet. Lajon, standing alone on a platform with nothing but a spotlight, told stories about growing up in Nashville and the memories the city brought him. Lajon then told the story of how lead guitarist John Connolly had written the song “Christmas Day” about his mother and how emotional it was to play now, since she has recently passed. The crowd was silent and the stage was lit up with green and red when they started the song. Once it was over, it was back to rocking out. Every member of the band looked genuinely happy during the whole set. When they got to the last song on the album, Lajon proceeded to tell the crowd that Sevendust didn’t have fans, they had family and this tour was a big family reunion. If you have the chance to see Sevendust on the second leg of their “Animosity 21st (20th) Anniversary Tour”, absolutely do it!
