Singer-Songwriters’ Favorite Christmas Memories

Music City Recording Artists Share Favorite Christmas Memories

The COVID-19 pandemic may have cast a shadow over the year, but these recording artists have taken time to revisit some favorite holiday memories.
James Dupré

“I have so many memories of home during the holidays, but one seems to stand out more than the others. Every Christmas, the children of the family dress up and put on a nativity play in the living room. My parents have a farm, so there’s real hay in the manger, and there’s always at least one goat involved. It’s a mix of sincerity for the kids, and a little comedy for the adults.”

Cody Belew

“My family is nothing if not a barrel of laughs. A few years back my younger brother brought a few bottles of homemade wine from his in-laws to Christmas dinner. Well, before we knew it, he had tipped the bottle one too many times and started talking about how his world-view was falling apart and just sat there at the dinner table crying like the new-born baby Jesus. We laughed at him that night and we’ve all laughed about it ever since. He now sticks to beer and whiskey for the Holidays!”

Amy Jack

“Our family was packed in the car with Sam the pointer quail hunting dog, all while pulling a quarter horse trailer on the way to Cheyenne, Oklahoma, to Grandmother’s house we go for Christmas, snowflakes falling and frost on the windshield. It was a true feeling of togetherness, which is the meaning of Christmas.”

Joey Hendricks

“One year instead of doing presents, my family got a nice hotel room in downtown Seattle and we did a little staycation. That was a special Christmas and a memory I’ll never forget. I’m not much of a gift person to be honest–giving or receiving. The best gift I can think of is just spending time with loved ones and enjoying their company around good drinks and good food. Those tend to be my favorite memories.”

Yacht Money

“We love making up songs with our entire family; it’s a family tradition The family gets to pick the subject… 2 chords..and go. It’s instant Christmas presents for your ears.“

Liddy Clark

“My favorite Christmas memory would have to be this bright blue electric scooter I got when I was 10. My brothers and I were really excited to race these down the street of our neighborhood; they only went like 12 MPH, but to us it felt like warp speed! They only lasted for a few years, but it’s still one of my favorite presents I’ve gotten.”

Jordana Bryant

“One of my favorite Christmas memories is decorating our tree while listening to old Christmas songs. Every year for as long as I can remember, we’ve listened to our Christmas playlist on this old speaker we have that always takes forever to turn on, which is connected to an iPod that’s so old it doesn’t even have a touch screen! Listening to those songs and decorating with my family has become one of my favorite traditions.”
