TRUE LEGENDS LIVE FOREVER:  Irish Hard Rockers Thin Lizzy Release Their Iconic Final Album “Thunder and Lightning” telling an Amazing Tale of Rebellion

By Leslie Snyder

To say that true legends will live forever is true.  This is the case for the legendary hard rock band out of Dublin, Ireland named Thin Lizzy.  Thin Lizzy was founded and led by a charismatic front man and bassist Phil Lynott in the late 1960’s.  This amazing hard rock band took on the “all-or-nothing” philosophy throughout their entire career which is on full display throughout their twelfth album “Thunder and lightning” which was released on March 4,1983 featuring nine fiery tracks that will make one sweat while listening to this earth-shattering album.

The tale of rebellion begins with dark clouds rolling in with heavy, booming crashes of thunder hovering over a frightened person’s head in the brooding track “Thunder And Lightning.”  This track features gritty vocals and blistering hard rock melodies that sound like a large boiler exploded in a factory during a thunderstorm when it was struck by a bolt of lightning.  This violent act of Mother Nature sent people running for cover.  This track is an obnoxious rant about an angry group of people who refused to live by society’s rules and wanting to take over the world by leaving a trail of fire behind them.  Meanwhile, the tale of rebellion continues with a man’s heart rate rising in the steamy track “The Sun Goes Down.”  This track features slithering vocals and haunting hard rock melodies that sound like a wolf is howling at the moon at midnight in search of its prey.  This track is a sultry tale about a self-centered man who sets his sights on a beautiful woman. Then, the ravenous couple lets their animalistic desires run wild under the cover of darkness.

Next, the tale of rebellion rolls on with debauchery turning into overwhelming fear in the anxiety ridden track “Cold Sweat.”  This track features snarling vocals and heavy, rumbling hard rock melodies that sound like a nervous man who is sweating profusely as he is attempting to outrun the police driving an old car with a run-down engine and a gaping hole in the muffler.  This track is raucous tale about a streetwise man who vows to life his life on the edge.  However, the streetwise man is constantly looking over his shoulder to keep one step ahead of law enforcement.  Finally. The tale of rebellion slows down to a screeching halt with a feeling of sadness overcoming a proud man in the heart wrenching track “Baby Please Don’t Go.”  This track features sorrowful vocals and crackling hard rock melodies that sound like a once proud man’s hopes and dreams have suddenly turned into a pile of smoldering ashes.  This track is a heartbreaking tale about a once proud man who is a rock and roller is begging and pleading with his girlfriend to stay.  The proud rock and roller’s girlfriend knew what a life on tour and singing in front of large crowds was going to be like when the couple’s relationship started.

Thin Lizzy was a captivating hard rock band that blew listeners away with their unapologetic, yet eerie melodies that are woven throughout their classic album “Thunder and Lightning.”  The band’s charismatic front man Phil Lynott wanted to be a legend like his Irish folk-heroes and he truly is.
